Dickson Akoh denies ‘deaths’ of pregnant women, nursing mothers at Peace Corps training in Otukpo

The national commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Amb. Dickson Akoh haa debunked the reports on social media claiming that pregnant women and nursing mothers died during training in Otukpo, Benue State.

Akoh, who described the report as ‘trash and misleading’ noted that the organisation does not recruit pregnant women and nursing mothers.

He said, “This report is a thrash. It’s indeed ridiculous, malicious, highly misleading, a deliberate and calculated attempt to soil the hard earned reputation that the Peace Corps of Nigeria and my humble self are enjoying locally and internationally.

I left the Camp at Jesus College, Otukpo on Monday and have been in constant touch with the Camp Commandant as well as the State Commandant. As been our usual practice, we have a Medical Team, which comprises Doctors and Nurses stationed in the Camp.

Besides providing medical care to the Cadets and camp officials, they are to ensure that nursing mothers, pregnant women and other candidates with medical and physical challenges are not allowed into the Camp.

For now, there’s no reported cases of any death or ailment whatsoever in the Camp

The Representatives of the Police, SSS, Local Govt, the office of the SSG and Media Houses are all invited and in the Camp as observers.

They can attest to the reality on ground.
