Dismiss Atiku’s appeal – Tinubu tells Supreme Court
President Bola Tinubu has urged the Supreme Court to reject the appeal filed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging his win in the 2023 presidential election.
Describing the appeal as abusive, President Tinubu prayed for its dismissal, asserting that Atiku and the PDP failed to substantiate their allegations and claims at the Tribunal. He emphasized that the Tribunal’s verdict affirming his election was correct.
President Tinubu urged the apex court to uphold the lower court’s decision and dismiss the appeal entirely, asserting its lack of merit and genuineness.
Atiku and the PDP had lodged a petition contesting the outcome of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023. Among their allegations were irregularities and significant non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
However, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, in its ruling on September 6, found Atiku failed to substantiate his claims. Atiku subsequently appealed to the Supreme Court on September 18, 2023, presenting 35 grounds of appeal and alleging grave errors and misrepresentation by the Tribunal, leading to a miscarriage of justice. The appellants seek the Supreme Court to annul the Tribunal’s findings and conclusions.
