‘Do I look sick? I’m very well’ — Wike responds to health rumours

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed recent reports claiming he is unwell, assuring Nigerians that he is in good health.
In an interview with BBC Pidgin, set to air Saturday evening, Wike attributed the rumours about his health to detractors and political opponents.
“As I’m speaking with you, do I look like someone who is sick? Looking at me, would you believe I’m over 30 years old? I’m very well,” he said confidently.
Addressing questions about grooming his son for a political career, Wike responded, “What’s wrong with that?”
The rumors first surfaced in April when Wike was reported to have collapsed during an event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and was said to have been rushed abroad for urgent medical care.
However, he made a public appearance two days later, joining dignitaries in paying Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, appearing in high spirits and effectively quashing concerns about his health.
Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, also dismissed the reports as false.
The former Governor of Rivers State further suggested that the health rumors were a deliberate attempt to distract from revelations made by the immediate past Rivers Head of Service, George Nwaeke, regarding the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
