If you’re wondering what AgroTech is, the definition is simple—it’s Agriculture and Technology coming together to create something beautiful, and this is not a new phenomenon.

AgroTech has been around for a while, although not everyone is aware of it.

From the days of Henry Blair—the man who invented the Seed Planter to make seed planting easier and faster, thus increasing harvest in 1834, there have been some moves to connect Agriculture with technology.

With time, things got easier as different innovations were born.

Some of the innovations we have seen so far have been mind-blowing, like the precision farming I talked about some days ago.

These innovations have brought about major boost to harvest, and reduction of manual labour, thus saving the time usually spent on the farmland.

Back to the big question concerning our discussion on the marriage between agriculture and technology; is it a blessing or a curse?

It is quite sad that food is one of the major problems in Nigeria, considering that we have good soil here.

Transportation and insecurity have also taken their toll on food production, and the result is that we are not producing enough food to feed the nation.

Agricultural Technology has not been developed enough to help in planting, harvesting and rearing of livestock.

There are often not enough plans to increase the agricultural produce enough to feed our population of 200 million people with over 90 million living in poverty. We need this marriage between agriculture and tech to work.

On the downside, these people below-average living suddenly go out of jobs because some of them work on the farm. Makes you wonder what plans are there for those who are paid for man power, should tech take over agriculture.

No doubt, AgroTech would make farming very easy, saving time and stress but what happens to the employees who are paid for their manpower?

What hope is left for them?
