Don Jazzy Reflects on Humble Beginnings: From Akara Seller’s Son to Music Mogul
Renowned music producer and industry icon, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has taken a moment to reminisce about his modest origins in Ajegunle, where he grew up as the son of an Akara (bean cakes) seller.
During his appearance on the latest episode of the Zero Conditions podcast, the head of Mavin Records delved into his early life and acknowledged how his upbringing in a financially challenging environment played a pivotal role in shaping his character and achievements.
He shared, “The memories are vivid, like it was just yesterday. I can vividly remember sitting with my mum, helping her fry Akara on a bench there in Ajegunle. Whenever a well-to-do individual in their Peugeot 504 or Mercedes 230 passed by, they would come over to buy Akara. At times, I would hope that one of them would take a look at me and just say, ‘Young boy, take this, I know you could use it.'”
It’s worth noting that Don Jazzy’s journey has been marked by his ascent from humble beginnings to becoming a notable figure in the music industry. His recollections underline how his early experiences instilled in him a strong sense of determination and resilience.
Tragically, Don Jazzy lost his mother to cancer in July 2022, adding another layer of emotional depth to his reflections on his roots.
