Former U.S. President Donald Trump surrendered himself on the evening of August 24th at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia, where he was booked on felony charges linked to his alleged involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state.
Escorted by a presidential-style motorcade, Trump arrived at the jail premises shortly after 7:30 p.m. ET. Swiftly, he underwent the booking process, which included fingerprinting and the capture of his mugshot, all completed within a matter of minutes as per jail records.
As a requirement for his release pending trial, Trump submitted a bail bond amounting to $200,000 (£157,000) to the Atlanta jail authorities. Remarkably, the entire procedure took approximately 20 minutes, according to official records.
Addressing the media on the tarmac just before boarding his plane to depart from Atlanta, Trump decried the situation as a “travesty of justice.” He staunchly maintained, “We did nothing wrong at all, and we have every single right to challenge an election we think is dishonest.”
This marked the fourth arrest for Trump since April, distinguishing this occasion as the first instance in which he, or any former U.S. president, had his mugshot captured during the arrest process.
