There was a mild drama on Saturday in Anyiin, Logo area of Benue State during the requiem mass for Dr Terkura Suswam as the Bishop of Gboko Catholic Diocese, His Lordship William Avenya, refused to allow the state governor to speak.
This is not the first time the cleric would be denying the governor the opportunity to speak at religious gatherings.
The development angered many loyalists and aides of Ortom, who took to their social media pages to slam the catholic bishop for always ‘disrespecting the governor.”
However, Ortom’s media aide, Terver Akase, in a statement said the governor will not join issue with the cleric.
He said, “Governor Samuel Ortom appreciates the concerns raised by Benue people on social media and elsewhere following the decision of the Bishop of Gboko Catholic Diocese, His Lordship William Avenya not to allow him, Senator Suswam or any other person to speak during the requiem mass for Dr Terkura Suswam today in Anyiin.
As a devout Christian, Governor Ortom will not join issues with any anointed man of God and advises his supporters to do same.
He reaffirms the support of his administration to the growth of the church which he says has contributed significantly to the development of the state.”
