A yet-to-be-identified driver and other occupants escaped death after he lost control of his car and crashed into a barrier on an overhead bridge along the Abuja Kubwa highway.
The incident was said to have occurred on Monday around 10:40 am on the interchange bridge around the Dutsen-Alhaji junction of the highway.
The driver was said to be coming from the Gwarimpa axis towards Kubwa.
According to Daily Trust, a witness, Muhammad Surajo, said the vehicle was trailing behind a heavy duty vehicle, which covered a sizable space of the lane on the bridge.
“The driver, who was on top speed, lost control and hit the bridge barrier,’’ he said.
Head of operations, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, in charge of Gwarimpa/Kubwa highway unit, Jaafaru Muhammad, said that both the driver and other occupants of the affected vehicle came out before the vehicle caught fire.
He said the driver survived with minor injuries on his head and leg, adding that his relatives took him away.
