A drunk soldier celebrating his birthday has allegedly killed Joseph Jelmang in Marish community of Bokko local government area of Plateau State. According to the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), the incident occurred on April 22.
BCDC, through its chairman, Barr. Farmasum Fuddang, condemned the occurrence. They claimed that the soldier, identified as Gideon, recklessly discharged his firearm during birthday celebrations at a relaxation center, resulting in Jelmang’s death.
The council denounced efforts to cover up the crime by falsely labeling innocent bystanders and residents who attempted to assist Jelmang as militants. They urged swift and decisive action from military authorities and the Attorney General to arrest and prosecute the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law.
BCDC also called for the immediate release of individuals detained by soldiers in Marish on April 22 and earlier occasions. Despite attempts to contact the spokesman of Operation Save Haven (OPSH) in Jos, Major Samson Khazom, there was no response to calls and inquiries.
