Drama broke out in Benue State on Friday, August 2, 2016, when a certain Mobile Police officer identified as Corporal Terfa, attached to a checkpoint in Zaki Biam area of the state allegedly opened up fire on a driver and his passengers simply because the driver refused to exchange pleasantries with him.
IDOMA.VOICE.COM gathered that although, no life was lost, but a kid was said to have sustained bullet wounds during the infamous incident.
Narrating the incident, an eyewitness, Saror Sekav, said, “Our police are funnily stupid. Today, I saw the worst cadre.
“A policeman stopped us at a checkpoint in Zaki Biam and ordered us out of the car on the grounds that our driver was fond of not greeting him.
“We and the driver begged that he should let us go but he refused. We thought he was joking until when he turned down his superior’s order to allow us leave.
“We decided to follow his superior’s orders and the subordinate identified as Terfa, a corporal opened fire on the car. Fortunately the driver wasn’t hit.
One of his bullets hit a kid on the leg.
Fight ensued between the driver and the police officer believed to be under the influence of alcohol.
He said, “The timely intervention of some youths prevented the police from causing further havoc.
“And earlier in the day this same newly transferred to Mopol had brutalised a youth corps member with the butt of his gun, the source added.”
It was gathered that when the DPO ordered for his arrest he went into hiding and switched off his phones.
Speaking further, the eyewitness added,” he (Terfa) is a disgrace to the police, his family and the entire Tiv nation.
“The moral is to be very proactive when dealing with our security agents on the road. They can kill you for a debt of greetings.
“Was at the police station to give evidence against the Corporal Terfa but he never showed up,” he added.
The Benue State Police Command could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report.
