DSS arrests man who posted how Benue varsity’s VC’s slap made student ran mad
Men of the Department of State Security, DSS, have reportedly arrested one Joshua Alabama Gwebe, for alleged fake news and posting of a derogatory story on social media against the Vice-Chancellor Benue State University, Makurdi, Prof Joe Tor Iorapuu.
IDOMA VOICE gathered that the said Gwebe, had in a recent social media (Facebook) post alleged that Prof Joe Tor Iorapuu, the Vice-Chancellor Benue State University, slapped a student in the premises of the University, who in his post ran mad as a result of the slap.
The Information and Public Relation Officer of Benue State University, T. Tser Vanger, debunked the the allegations almost immediately in a statement issued that same day.
“The attention of the Vice-Chancellor Benue State University, Prof Joe Tor Iorapuu has been drawn to a libellous, infuriating, injurious and totally conflicting comment purportedly made by one Joshua Alabama Gwebe alleging that the Vice-Chancellor this morning slapped a student in the premises of the University, who in his post ran mad as a result of the slap,” the statement read in part.
It further read; “We wish to state that:
“1. The Vice-Chancellor was not even aware of the said presence of the allegedly slapped student on campus this morning.
“2. That the altercations the said student who looked like a near mad person had with the school security was even without the notice of the Vice-Chancellor.”
According to the local social media influencer, Krayzietee Atu, who broke the news of the arrest of Gwebe on Thursday evening, the young man had already apologized for the derogatory post.
Krayzieetee Atu wrote; “Our brother Joshua Alabama Gwebe is rumoured to have been picked by DSS for posting an unconfirmed story about BSU VC.
He is a brother and a friend to many including me, we are pleading with the VC BSU to temper justice with mercy and free this youngman.
The young man has realised his mistake and was already apologising for it as it was evidenced from his subsequent posts.
We have a lot to worry about as a people than to lock our brothers over Facebook posts.
#A_cry_for_1_is_a_cry_for_all.”
