Dzarma Zirkusu: Army confirms Borno attack, reveals identity of General murdered by ISWAP

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its troops were attacked in Borno State earlier in the day.

IDOMA VOICE had reported how a Brigadier-General and some soldier were killed in an ambush.

They were ambushed at Bulguma, few kilometers from Askira town in Askira Uba Local Government Area, while on their way to supports troops who were battling insurgents.

A source had earlier told Daily Trust that the soldiers needed support because the fighters, who stormed the town in a large convoy of gun trucks, were engaging them in a fierce battle.

In a statement on Saturday evening, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, Army Spokesman, described the incident as tragic.

He said the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, has commiserated with the families of the deceased officers.

He identified the slain senior officer as Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu, but he was silent on the identities of junior officers killed.

The name of the General was not mentioned in the previous report on the incident.
