The Ebonyi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confiscated 115.226 kilograms of various illicit drugs and arrested 149 suspects during the third quarter of the year.
State Commander Mr. Peter Ogar announced the figures on Wednesday in Abakaliki, detailing that the arrests and seizures occurred in different locations across the state between July and September 2024.
Ogar stated, “During this period, the agency also provided counseling to 82 suspects, consisting of 64 males and 18 females. In total, we apprehended 149 individuals, including 112 males and 37 females, aged between 26 and 72 years. This group includes drug dealers, users, and traffickers.”
He listed the seized substances, which included crack cocaine (0.0023kg), Cannabis Sativa (55.492kg), codeine syrup (0.393kg), Tramadol tablets (0.004kg), Tramadol capsules (0.437kg), and Diazepam (917 tablets, 0.964kg). Other drugs included methamphetamine (0.0054kg), bromazepam (75 tablets, 0.034kg), lorazepam (476 tablets, 0.100kg), and monkey tail (56 liters, 42.2kg), along with various psychotropic substances, totaling 115.226 kilograms.
Ogar also mentioned that one individual was convicted during this period and reiterated the agency’s commitment to combatting illicit drug trafficking not only in Ebonyi but across Nigeria.
“We have also conducted sensitization campaigns targeting the youth and community leaders, emphasizing the importance of ending drug abuse and trafficking,” he added. “We organized awareness programs in primary and secondary schools in several local government areas.”
