Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ought to have informed the state government prior to his visit.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Afegbua was responding to the recent gunmen attack targeting Obi and other prominent figures of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

IDOMA VOICE recalls that the incident, described as an ‘assassination attempt,’ involved the former Anambra State governor and ADC members in Edo, drawing nationwide attention.

Afegbua added that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s remarks last year, urging Obi to seek clearance before entering the state, were widely misinterpreted.

“People misread Governor Okpebholo’s statement from July last year, to the point that it was assumed Peter Obi must notify the state government every time he visits Edo.

“But given that Obi is a politically exposed person, it would have been courteous to inform the government in advance.

“What occurred in Edo should be seen as an internal matter within the ADC one faction clashing with another,” the Commissioner explained.
