Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has appointed Musa U. Ikhilor as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Samson Osagie as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole as Commissioner for Health.
This announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua. The nominations of Osagie and Oshiomhole will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for confirmation.
Musa U. Ikhilor, born on August 6, 1980, in Benin City, Edo State, is a seasoned legal professional. He obtained his LL.B (Second Class Upper Division) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2008, and his B.L. (Second Class Upper Division) from the Nigerian Law School in 2009. In 2017, he earned a Masters in Telecommunications Law (LL.M) from the same university.
With over 11 years of experience in legislative drafting, parliamentary administration, and constitutional law, Ikhilor has held several prominent positions, including Consultant to the Federal House of Representatives on the 1999 Constitution review in 2019. He also served as Special Adviser and later Chief of Staff to the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives. He is the Managing Partner at Springfield Legal Consult and an Executive Director of Amana Legacy Foundation.
Dr. Samson Osagie, the nominee for Attorney-General, is a distinguished private legal practitioner, called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995. A former two-term member of the Edo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, where he served as Minority Whip, Osagie has a wealth of legal experience across Nigeria and Africa.
He holds multiple degrees, including a Law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master’s in Law, Public Administration, and International Relations, and a Doctorate in Political Economy and Development Studies. He also serves as the Vice President of the African Bar Association (West African Region).
Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, the new Commissioner for Health, brings a robust academic background to the role. He graduated with an MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before pursuing a Master of Science in Public Health at Tulane University, New Orleans. Dr. Oshiomhole furthered his education at Harvard University in Clinical Research and Queen Mary University, London in Gastroenterology. His diverse expertise spans medicine, public health, and disaster management.
The new appointees are expected to contribute significantly to the development of the state in their respective areas.
