Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the recruitment of 500 teachers by the State Basic Education Board to enhance the quality of education in public schools.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu, on Wednesday in Benin, shortly after assuming office.

Dr. Iyamu, who was sworn in on Monday following his confirmation by the state’s House of Assembly, emphasized the state government’s commitment to addressing staffing shortages in public schools.

He noted that the recruitment process will be conducted in phases to ensure all vacancies are adequately filled.

“This initiative is part of the Okpebholo administration’s focus on improving the education sector. The era of having just two or three teachers in a school is over. The government is committed to staffing all public schools with qualified teachers,” Iyamu stated.

The commissioner encouraged qualified Nigerians to apply, assuring the public that the recruitment would be strictly merit-based.
