Master Gold Oviota Ajagun, the fifteen-year-old highest scorer in the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) from Edo State, was granted the honorary position of one-day speaker at the Edo State House of Assembly.
A student at Gloryland Secondary School in Akoko-Edo Local Government, Master Ajagun outperformed all other candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Edo state, securing an impressive score of 335 marks in the examination.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Hon Blessing Agbebaku, accompanied by the lawmaker representing Akoko-Edo constituency II, Donald Okogbe, warmly welcomed the exceptional student and bestowed upon him the role of one-day speaker at the Assembly.
Agbebaku praised the student for his remarkable achievement, bringing honor to the state, and additionally granted him a one-year scholarship covering his tuition fees. The scholarship will take effect upon his admission to the University of Ibadan for his medicine and surgery studies.
In an earlier introduction of Master Ajagun to the speaker, Hon Donald Okogbe expressed his admiration for the young boy’s exceptional results, emphasizing that he represents their constituency. Okogbe revealed that Ajagun’s WAEC result had been initially withheld for further investigation but was eventually released.
The lawmaker presented a laptop to Master Ajagun and announced the coverage of his second-year tuition fees. Expressing gratitude, Ajagun commended the Speaker and House members for the scholarship and the privilege to serve as a one-day speaker. He also urged the State Government to increase the education sector’s budgetary allocation to ensure school-age children have access to fundamental and high-quality education.
