The Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Aziegbemi, has regained his freedom after being held captive for 11 days.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that Aziegbemi was abducted by armed individuals on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 11 pm, right at the entrance to his residence following a meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The abductors had demanded a ransom of N500 million for his release.
Senator Odion Ugbesia confirmed the news of the PDP chairman’s release, expressing, “Yes, I just spoke to him, it is true. To God be the glory.”
In the midst of this ordeal, a statement signed by Clem Aziegbemi, on behalf of the Aziegbemi family, extended heartfelt gratitude to the public for their overwhelming love and support during this challenging time.
“As members of the Aziegbemi family, we express our profound gratitude for the immense show of love and solidarity extended to us throughout the unfortunate and distressing abduction of our beloved son, brother, cousin, and leader, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, culminating in his safe release.
“We thank each and every one of you…. We are deeply appreciative of your invaluable contributions through prayers and unwavering support,” the statement read.
