Edo Tribunal nullifies PDP Reps, declares APC candidate winner

The Election Petition Tribunal in Benin, Edo State, has invalidated Destiny Enabulele’s election as the representative for the Ovia South West constituency in the State House of Assembly, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Sunday Aghedo, contested the election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and filed a case challenging Destiny Enabulele’s victory.

In its verdict issued on Friday, the Tribunal determined that the election was marred by irregularities and malpractices. After carefully assessing the evidence presented by Aghedo and the APC, the Tribunal deemed their case more credible, declaring the APC candidate as the legitimate winner of the March 15, 2023, election.

Supreme Court Ruling: Bode George’s Response to Bola Tinubu’s Victory

In response to the Supreme Court’s decision confirming Bola Tinubu as President, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, expressed his reluctance to extend congratulations to the President over his triumph.

George asserted that rushing to congratulate the President without thoroughly comprehending the ruling could lead to misjudgments. He emphasized that there is a need to meticulously study the ruling’s details.

Furthermore, George pointed out that the outcome of the ruling serves as a valuable lesson for the PDP. He urged the party to go back to the drawing board and strategize for the future.

In his words, “We just have to commit things into the hand of God, for God to lead us aright. Though the ruling of the Supreme Court is the final verdict but we still need to study it. If one should hurry to do things, he may end up regretting his action. We need to carefully study the ruling; it is too early to start jumping up and down. Our party has a great lesson to learn from the ruling. If anything happens to you, you need to calm down to resolve it; so we need to study the situation clearly – where did things go wrong? What is it that we did not do well? It is a lesson for us in the PDP. If God has made up his mind to do something, he will teach you some lessons; many will come with different advice that will serve as lessons, also we have to study the disposition of each judge to issues raised.”
