The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 55 individuals suspected of internet fraud in Offa, Kwara State. The arrests took place Wednesday at various locations across Offa, following intelligence reports on their involvement in cyber-related crimes, as confirmed by Dele Oyewole, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity.
During the sting operation, items seized included nine luxury cars, two motorcycles, laptops, smartphones, and charms. According to the EFCC, the suspects will face charges in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
This follows a similar operation in early September, when nearly 100 suspected internet fraudsters were detained in Ilorin, Kwara’s capital. Wednesday’s arrests predominantly involved young men, many of whom are of school age.
