The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Usman Yusuf, on a five-count amended charge of alleged fraud.
Yusuf pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyer, O.I. Habeeb, requested that he remain in EFCC custody pending the hearing of his bail application.
However, Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu ruled that after arraignment, the defendant is no longer under EFCC custody.
The judge adjourned the case to February 12, 2025, and ordered Yusuf’s remand at Kuje Correctional Centre until his bail application is heard.
He is accused of awarding contracts without due process and using his position for personal gain between 2016 and 2017.
