EFCC gives fresh details on Bobrisky’s alleged ₦15m bribery bribe
Controversial Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday regarding allegations that he bribed certain officials of the agency with ₦15 million.
A viral audio clip released by social media critic Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, featured Bobrisky claiming that unidentified EFCC officials accepted ₦15 million from him in exchange for dropping money laundering charges against him.
A source from the EFCC told Punch that Bobrisky’s interrogation commenced immediately after his arrival in Abuja. The source stated, “He was interrogated for hours upon his arrival here. He is still with us as I speak (8:30 PM).”
Reason for Bobrisky’s Arrest
The EFCC has provided details regarding the recent apprehension of Bobrisky. He was arrested on Thursday night at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while allegedly attempting to leave Nigeria for London amidst the bribery allegations.
After his initial detention in Lagos, Bobrisky was transferred to Abuja for further questioning. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed to SaharaReporters that Bobrisky was taken into custody after he did not respond to a formal invitation from the Commission.
Oyewale explained that Bobrisky’s arrest relates to an alleged bribery case, and the EFCC is seeking his assistance in identifying the officials he claims to have bribed. When asked if Bobrisky would face bribery charges, Oyewale noted that no formal decision had yet been made on that issue.
