EFCC moves Bobrisky to Abuja for questioning over bribery allegations

Controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, was re-arrested on Thursday night and is set to undergo interrogation regarding allegations of bribery and corruption in Abuja.

According to an official from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Bobrisky will be transported to Abuja today (Friday).

IDOMA VOICE recall that the embattled crossdresser was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos late Thursday night while attempting to leave for London, UK. Immigration officers detained him during the incident.

In a post on his Instagram page, Bobrisky informed his followers of his arrest, claiming he sustained injuries during a confrontation with immigration officials. He alleged that the EFCC was responsible for his detention, stating, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”

However, sources indicate that his arrest stemmed from his repeated failure to respond to several invitations from the EFCC following his claims against the commission. Bobrisky reportedly stated in a voice note shared by controversial social critic Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, that he had bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against him.

While the EFCC denied these allegations, it has established a committee to investigate the matter. During a press briefing on Thursday, the Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwajaren, indicated that Bobrisky could face additional charges if his allegations against the EFCC are found to be unfounded. He noted that making false claims against the commission could result in criminal charges.

A high-ranking source within the EFCC stated on Friday, “We have arrested him in Lagos today and will be flown to Abuja. He accused us of bribery and corruption; we invited him several times, but he did not show up. He who alleges must be ready to prove. Those allegations are too serious to overlook. Remember, he has also failed to appear before the National Assembly on this matter. We had no choice but to detain him so he can substantiate his claims.”

When reached for comment on Friday morning, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest, saying, “Bobrisky is on his way to Abuja as we speak.”
