The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has placed the incumbent governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano on watchlist.
In a letter to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) dated November 15, 2021, EFCC requested the Service to place the outgoing governor on watchlist and inform it anytime he is travelling out of the country from any of the International airports and other points of entry and exit.
POLITICS NIGERIA cannot yet establish the real reason the anti-graft agency placed Obiano on watchlist.
In September, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra had asked the anti-graft agency to probe the finances of the state in order to unearth “monumental deception”.
Basil Ejidike, Anambra APC chairman, in a statement, had alleged that Obiano has been “fraudulently” using the state’s security vote.
”Anambra as a state has not recorded significant growth and development since the inception of Governor Willy Obiano’s leadership. To maintain existing developmental structures in the state remains unattainable,” the statement read.
