Three policemen died on Wednesday in an accident which occurred on the Enugu- Abakaliki highway.
Ten others who were in the Hillux van they were travelling in also sustained varying degrees of injuries, it was gathered.
They were said to be returning from Effin community in Ohaukwu local government area when the accident occurred.
A source at the scene of the incident noted that the incident happened after Ishieke Junction along the expressway.
The source said the vehicle they were using skidded off the road and jumped the pavement shoulders of the road which resulted in the death and injuries to the officers.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Garba Aliyu confirmed the incident.
Mr Garba in an emotion ladden voice the noted that the ten injured officers are in intensive care unit at the Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA)
“Yes, I am in the hospital now, we lost 3 officers while 10 are on intensive unit care,” he said.
