Former Super Eagles striker, Samson Siasia, has urged Augustine Eguavoen to step down as interim head coach of the national team. Siasia believes that Eguavoen should not hold dual roles as both the coach and the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Siasia also advised the NFF against hiring a foreign coach for the Super Eagles, asserting that Nigeria has sufficient talent at home.
“We don’t need any foreign coach because they’re not coming to offer anything new. We have plenty of quality players here, so there’s no reason to be looking outside for a coach,” Siasia said in an interview with Vanguard.
On Eguavoen’s future, Siasia suggested waiting a little longer to assess the team’s performance, noting that it is a young squad. However, he emphasized that Eguavoen should choose between his two roles.
“Eguavoen already has a position as technical director, and he should focus on that role. He cannot continue managing the Super Eagles and hold the technical director position at the same time. He needs to decide which one to keep and resign from the other,” Siasia added.
