Ekiti high court sentences four to death over armed robbery

An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced four men to death by hanging for conspiracy and armed robbery.

Justice Lekan Olatawura convicted Oyedele Oluwatobi, 27; Damilola Christopher, 30; Tope Ojo, 37; and Temitope Aderopo, 37, on Thursday for their involvement in an armed robbery on August 3, 2021, in Ikere Ekiti.

The convicts, armed with guns, robbed victims of phones, laptops, jewelry, and ₦136,000. One victim, Idowu Damilola, recounted how she was forced out of hiding at gunpoint.

The judge ruled that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt, citing the confessions of the defendants.

He sentenced them to death by hanging, concluding, “May God have mercy on your souls.”
