Electoral Act Amendment Bill passes second reading

A bill to amend the Electoral Act underwent its second reading in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, as per a report by Naija News. The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to amend the Electoral Act, 2022 and for Related Matters,” was introduced by Francis Waive, the representative for Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency in Delta State.

During his presentation of the bill, Waive highlighted deficiencies in the current Electoral Act of 2022, emphasizing the necessity for amendments to facilitate the electronic transmission of results, thereby enhancing the nation’s democracy. Additionally, he advocated for periodic reviews of the voter register, suggesting a ten-year cycle for such revisions.

“A review of the voter register every 10 years will be a good starting point,” he stated.
