The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the full restoration of electricity supply to Damaturu in Yobe State and Maiduguri in Borno State after completing extensive repairs on the 330kV Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri transmission line.
In a statement on Friday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that the Gombe-Damaturu line was successfully reactivated at around 7:25 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30. Partial supply to the Damaturu-Maiduguri (Molai) section followed by Thursday afternoon.
Mbah explained that the recent outages resulted from the vandalism of Tower 372 along the 330kV line on September 22, 2024, which had disrupted operations. TCN’s rapid response and repair work demonstrate its commitment to providing a stable power supply despite ongoing challenges.
The restored transmission line is expected to improve quality of life and support economic activities for residents in Yobe and Borno states, who have faced weeks of limited electricity.
The statement read, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria has restored full power supply through the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line. Power was fully restored on the Gombe-Damaturu line at about 7:25 p.m. on October 30, with the Damaturu-Maiduguri (Molai) section following yesterday, October 31, 2024, around 2:01 p.m.
“The vandalized tower was rebuilt, and line stringing was completed on October 23, 2024, around 12:48 p.m. However, TCN was initially unable to restore full power supply due to the damage on the Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line. Power supply has now been fully restored along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line.”
The company urged the public to help prevent vandalism of power infrastructure, emphasizing its importance for Nigeria’s economic future.
“TCN again calls on the public to join in the fight against power installation vandalism to safeguard the future of electricity in Nigeria. Please report any suspicious activity around transmission installations to security operatives or TCN offices nationwide,” the statement added.
