The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and stakeholders in Benue State have overwhelmingly expressed a vote of no confidence in the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom.
At a press conference in Makurdi on Monday, they strongly denounced Iortyom’s recent television appearance, where he claimed that the party’s leadership in Benue State would support President Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential election.
The stakeholders categorically stated that Iortyom’s statement did not reflect the party’s position, as he was not authorized to endorse any presidential candidate.
They emphasized that the party remains supreme and will support its chosen candidate in the 2027 election, regardless of their origin.
The statement, read by Prof. Nicholas Ada, a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, urged the State Working Committee to promptly disown Iortyom’s claims and establish a disciplinary committee to investigate and punish him for his anti-party activities.
“Benue PDP should set up a disciplinary committee to investigate and consequently punish Mr Iortyom for such unfortunate and indicting claims to serve as a deterrent to other members engaged in anti-party activities.
“From the forth-coming party congresses, only credible and committed party men and women should be elected into party leadership at all levels in order to avoid putting black sheep into the ring. “
“Bemgba Iortyom has an unrepentant track record of anti-party activities.
“What the PDP needs at this material time is total overhaul and rebuilding instead of baseless argument over who flies the party’s Presidential Ticket in an election that is far three years away.”
