On Sunday night, gunmen stormed the palatial residence of the Emir of Gurku, Jibrin Mohammed, in Nasarawa State, and abducted him and his wife. The incident took place just a few kilometers away from Mararraba’s main town in Karu Local Government Area.
The Nasarawa Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the distressing development to reporters on Monday. After receiving a distress call, a joint team comprising the Police and vigilante organizations conducted an investigation in the surrounding bushes, but no signs of the abducted couple were found.
Currently, efforts to rescue the Emir and his wife are in progress, with additional police personnel from the Police Tactical Team, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the Karu Police Department joining the operation. The authorities are working tirelessly to secure the safe release of the kidnapped royals.
