Members of a Vigilante Group in Benue State have arrested and handed over to police a man Mr Emmanuel Antyu who has been parading himself as a Catholic Priest.
It was gathered that a parishioner, Vera Akinde of St. Mark’s Mission, Apir in the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, suspected the fake Catholic Priest when he presented himself as a Priest of Lafia Diocese.
The fake priest claimed that he was looking for accommodation following the breakdown of his vehicle.
The attention of the Assistant Parish Priest Rev. Fr Jonathan Gondo was drawn and the fake priest, upon interrogation, confessed that he was not a priest.
He also confessed that he had defrauded many unsuspecting members of the public where he disguised as a Catholic Priest.
When the Vigilante group searched his bag, drugs and other fake documents were found on him.
The Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, Father Jude Ortese, (CSSP) said the imposter has been handed over to the police at E-Division, Akpehe-Makurdi for further investigation.
