The EndSARS protest which claimed the lives of many and got several injured has attracted the attention of various media organizations within and outside Nigeria.
After the videos from the Lekki Shooting got shared widespread, the CNN decided to launch an investigation into the alleged massacre. Few days ago, CNN released a detailed video showing what happened at lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020. In the video, CNN reported that the news firm did a geo location of the video which is spreading and could confirm that indeed there was a massacre at lekki.
Furthermore, CNN took their investigation deeper by making enquiries about the bullet found at the lekki toll gate and the ones showed in the video by ends are protesters. After the investigation, it showed that the Bullets Shot at the EndSARS protesters matched the ones being used by the Nigeria Army presently.
After this investigation came to limelight, Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed debunked the claim that soldiers shot at Peaceful protesters thus making him call for the sanction of CNN over the report.
In a new development, CNN released another video footage report with Geo Location from the lekki shooting. In the video as released by the LCC company in charge of the lekki toll gate, Protesters were seen running for safety as military men arrived the seen.
In the video, CNN senior correspondent Nima Elbagir said the new video they analysed was the one released by the LCC to the judicial panel. It showed two places where Soldiers were seen shooting at protesters while the protesters run back to the other side of the toll gate.
To corroborate their point, CNN used the Geo location feature to compare the scene in the video to when some people in a building close to the toll gate were seen shouting by saying “they are releasing fire” meaning the protesters are being shot at allegedly by the Army.
CNN reported that the time at which the people in the building were shouting and recording the video tallied with the time the protesters were running after soldiers kept shooting at them.
After that, the Video again shows that as people ran to the other side of the toll gate, shots were fired at them twice and after CNN geo located the video, it shows the exact time it was reported the shooting happened.
After the video from the LCC CCTV got banned away by 8pm, CNN released a statement that it has been vindicated from the allegations by Lai Mohammed that the investigation conducted was false and lacked merit.
