Kaduna state government has raised alarm over the goods looted from the National Agency for Food & Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) warehouse in Narayi area of Chikun local government, saying they include expired, prohibited and dangerous drugs.

The state government warned that persons who consume such drugs are at great risk of serious illness and death. It further noted that the management of a food processing company whose stores were looted in Kakuri had also disclosed that the stolen grains have been treated with chemical preservatives which render them unsafe for consumption.

A statement issued by the state commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan stated that the state government has been updated of the situation by NAFDAC and the food processing company.

Aruwan called on residents to be vigilant and careful about the source of food and medications they take and where they buy them, to avoid these dangers.

“The Kaduna State Government appeals to the public for information on the identities of the looters and where they might be hiding the stolen item,” it stated.

Residents of Kaduna on Saturday besieged several government warehouses in search of Covid-19 palliatives and looted thousands of food items, grains as well as furniture and electronics.

The situation led to the imposition of a state of emergency on Chikun and Kaduna South local government areas which was later extended to the entire state to prevent a general break down of law and order.
