End SARS: Ortom has done well – Och’Idoma, others

The Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State applauds the handling of the EndSARS crisis in the state by Governor Samuel Ortom which saw to its timely and peaceful resolution.

The governor was today hailed as having set the trend and pace towards achieving peaceful end to the crisis by his honest, visionary and courageous stand over it by leaders across political cultural and religious divides at the Presidential Briefing held at the Peoples House, Makurdi.

Recall that at the outbreak of the crisis, Governor Ortom had expressed understanding for the grievances aired by protesting youths across the country calling for reforms in the Nigeria Police Force.

The governor had ventured further by going out on the streets to meet with the protesting youths whom he solidarised with, thereby earning their trust and cooperation.

Resultatnly, peace and order has been maintained in the state, with none of the unfortunate incidents of loss of lives, destruction of properties which occured elsewhere happening in Benue.

Leaders who took turns at the Briefing to applaud this exceptional feat by the governor included Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume; Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Abba Yaro; the Tor Tiv, HRM Professor James Ayatse; the Och’Idoma, HRM Dr. Elias Ikoyi Obekpa and former Military Governor of the state, General Atom Kpera (Rtd.).

Others were Wantaregh Paul Unongo, Senator Daniel Saror, representatives of the youth, civil societies organisations, socia-cultural and religious bodies.

Benue PDP agrees with those leaders that if the ‘Ortom Approach’ had been adopted elsewhere, including by the Presidency, the EndSARS crisis would have been resolved without the destruction of lives and properties which attended it.

Bemgba Iortyom,
State Publicity Secretary,
PDP, Benue State.
