Nigeria Queen of Nollywood, Genevieve Nnaji, has written to President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue of the continuous brutality melted on the citizens by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Unit Of The Nigeria Police, SARS.
The actress in an open letter she personally addressed to the President, narrated how her 13-year-old niece was physically assaulted by SARS just because she asked why her laptop was being seized.
She said that complaints were made and nothing was done.
She noted that no one is spared, adding that “we are all affected.”
She wrote, “Mr President, this is the current state of your country.
“The stability of a nation is largely dependent on leadership. And every head of house has one chance to build their legacy.
“Sir, you’ve had two, What our country is today is a reflection of your leadership. Your legacy.”
She observed that the world is clearly leaving Nigeria behind, adding that it is becoming tiring that the country “is only an incubator for greatness and not a habitat”.
She asked what will be President Buhari’s legacy when “it’ all said and done?…I aspire for mine to leave a mark and not scar”.
She said, “I urge you to speak to us because we are not mind readers. Your house is in order and way far from stable.”
She said Nigerians (those unjustly being brutalized) are not criminals and shouldn’t be treated as such.
She added that if there is an increase in crime, it is as a result of the increase in poverty.
She said there is not difference between the criminals and the law enforcers anymore.
She urged the President to used his office as the Commander-in-Chief to order the troops to back down, noting that while leaders will go, the people will always remain.
