The Surulere Constituency State Assembly election is looking to be a movie because of how fierce it’s promising to be and practically as the front runners are actual actors, IDOMA VOICE reports.
With veteran actor and movie producer-cum-politician, Desmond Elliot as the candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and ‘The Johnsons’ star, Olumide Oworu as the flag bearer of the raving Labour Party, the election promises to be a clash of Nollywood titans!
While Elliot is the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency, 28-year-old Oworu still stands a chance with the recent surge of the Labour Party, backed by the euphoria of the Obidient Movement.
Moreso, Elliott is currently out of grace with Lagos’ social media-savvy youths.
Recall that the veteran thespian made himself a ‘public enemy’ with his insensitive comments about the youths during October 2020 EndSARS protest.
Lagos youths may finally get revenge at the March 18 poll by voting against Elliott.
This means that they would vote for one of their own, Oworu who luckily is in a youth-friendly party, LP.
Peter Obi’s victory in Lagos over the son of the soil, Bola Tinubu of the APC in the presidential election, means that the state is a stronghold of the Labour Party.
Also, the victory of a less-known, Attah Thaddeus of the LP over the famous Nigerian singer, Bankole Wellington, alias Banky W, in the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency election, would boost the confidence of other LP candidates in the state.
However, Elliott’s biggest undoing would be his reported abysmal performance and non-charismatic leadership style.
But then again, the game of politics is tricky, no one can confidently predict how the pendulum would swing.
