EPL: Arne Slot suspended for two matches after red card

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-match touchline ban following his red card in the heated aftermath of Liverpool’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Everton.

The Reds were moments away from securing a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League on Wednesday when James Tarkowski’s stunning volley in the eighth minute of stoppage time salvaged a point for Everton.

Tensions erupted as Abdoulaye Doucoure’s exuberant celebrations in front of Liverpool fans provoked a reaction from Curtis Jones, leading to both players being sent off.

The chaos escalated further as fans spilled onto the pitch, prompting the involvement of stewards and police. Referee Michael Oliver then dismissed Slot and his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff.

“Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language,” the Premier League confirmed in a statement. “As a result, he has been handed a two-match touchline ban.”

Slot will miss Liverpool’s home clash against struggling Wolves on Sunday and their trip to Aston Villa on February 19. Meanwhile, Doucoure and Jones will each serve a one-match suspension.

The fiery draw, marking the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park before Everton’s move to a new stadium, leaves Liverpool seven points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table with 14 games remaining.
