EPL: Chelsea coach Maresca admits Liverpool ‘impossible to catch’ in title race
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has conceded that Liverpool could already be running away with the Premier League title.
After just five rounds of matches, Arne Slot’s men have established a five-point lead at the top of the table and remain the only side with a perfect record.
Maresca’s Chelsea, meanwhile, are seven points adrift of the Reds, who lifted the title last season with four games to spare.
Liverpool strengthened heavily in the summer transfer window, sealing a £116 million deal for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and breaking the bank on deadline day with a £125 million move for Alexander Isak. In total, the club splashed over £400 million on reinforcements.
Speaking after Chelsea’s latest outing, Maresca admitted Liverpool’s dominance could prove insurmountable.
“If they continue in this way, I think it is impossible to catch them — not just for us, but for all the clubs,” he said.
“They have been doing a fantastic job since last year, and the players they have decided to buy show the club’s intention to go again for the Premier League and the Champions League. That is quite clear.”
