EPL: Haaland ends drought with two goals in City’s thrashing of West Ham

Erling Haaland scored twice in the Premier League for the first time in over three months as Manchester City dominated West Ham, matching their largest win of the season.

Haaland’s performance was marked by a header late in the first half, followed by a composed finish over West Ham keeper Alphonse Areola after a perfectly timed through ball from Savinho.

Savinho, who was arguably City’s standout player, played a key role in the opening goal, delivering a cross from the left wing in the 10th minute. The ball deflected off Vladimir Coufal and caught Areola off guard, handing City the lead.

Phil Foden added a fourth goal, tapping in his second league goal of the season after a selfless assist from Kevin de Bruyne, who chose to pass rather than score on his 400th appearance for City.

West Ham managed a consolation goal when Niclas Fullkrug latched onto Tomas Soucek’s cross in the 71st minute. However, Crysencio Summerville squandered the Hammers’ best opportunity shortly after, misfiring with the goal gaping.

This victory marked City’s first back-to-back wins since October, offering a glimmer of hope for manager Pep Guardiola. After a challenging period that saw the club’s Treble-winning boss openly question his own future, this win may signal a turning point.

In stark contrast, West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui faces mounting pressure. While this defeat was not as heavy as their 5-0 loss to Liverpool earlier in the season, the presence of former manager David Moyes in the stands highlighted the lack of progress since his departure.
