EPL: Iwobi scores as Fulham stun Liverpool to end 26-game unbeaten run

Liverpool’s remarkable 26-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League was brought to an abrupt end on Sunday as Fulham stunned the league leaders with a 3-2 victory at Craven Cottage.

The Reds took the lead midway through the first half through a moment of brilliance from Alexis Mac Allister, who unleashed a spectacular 25-yard strike into the top corner to give Arne Slot’s side the early advantage.

However, Fulham responded with a flurry of goals in a dramatic 13-minute spell before half-time. Ryan Sessegnon drew the hosts level with a composed first-time finish after Andreas Pereira’s delivery deflected into his path.

Liverpool’s woes deepened when Alex Iwobi capitalised on a wayward cross-field pass from Andy Robertson. Although his first attempt was blocked, the Nigerian’s follow-up shot took a deflection off Robertson and found the net to put Marco Silva’s men in front.

The third goal came from a chaotic sequence following a Fulham corner. Iwobi mis-hit a recycled ball at the edge of the area, but Rodrigo Muniz kept the move alive. A deft touch sent him through on goal, and the Brazilian made no mistake, slotting past Caoimhin Kelleher with composure.

Liverpool mounted a late fightback, with substitute Luis Díaz reducing the deficit in the 72nd minute, turning in a low pass from Conor Bradley. The visitors pushed for an equaliser and came close when Harvey Elliott struck the crossbar with a curling effort.

Despite late pressure, including half-chances for Elliott and Federico Chiesa, Fulham held on for a famous win. Bernd Leno remained largely untroubled in the closing stages as the Cottagers climbed to eighth in the table, strengthening their hopes of European football next season. They now sit just five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Liverpool, though still top of the league, now need a maximum of 11 points from their final seven matches to clinch a record-equalling 20th English league title.
