EPL: Lewis-Skelly sees red as Arsenal hold on for vital victory at Wolves

Riccardo Calafiori’s late goal secured a crucial Premier League win for 10-man Arsenal against Wolves after Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial red card.

Referee Michael Oliver stunned the Gunners by dismissing Lewis-Skelly in the 43rd minute for a foul on Matt Doherty, stopping the Wolves defender’s break from a corner.

At 18 years and 121 days, Lewis-Skelly became the third-youngest player to see red in Premier League history, behind Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.

Joao Gomes’ second yellow card for a foul on Jurrien Timber with 20 minutes to go provided Wolves with a similar setback, but it remains a mere footnote to the drama.

Arsenal, trailing league leaders Liverpool by six points before the match, risked losing ground in the title race.

However, resilience and a half-time reshuffle paid off, with substitute Calafiori firing a precise low finish in the 74th minute to clinch the win.

Earlier, Wolves fans voiced discontent against their owners, chanting for better support as their team languished in 17th place.

Pablo Sarabia volleyed over, while Kai Havertz and Matheus Cunha came close for their respective sides. Ultimately, Calafiori’s strike proved decisive, keeping Arsenal six points adrift of Liverpool, who beat Ipswich 4-1.
