As the excitement builds for the upcoming 2023/24 Premier League season, Arsenal legend Paul Merson has weighed in with his predictions for the Player of the Year and Golden Boot winners.
Last season, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland dominated both awards, but Merson believes there will be different victors this time around.
For the prestigious Golden Boot award, Merson has placed his bet on Harry Kane. The English striker’s remarkable goal-scoring record and consistent performances have earned him this prediction. Merson stated, “Erling Haaland stopped scoring goals towards the end of last season, didn’t he? Harry Kane’s record has been incredible. He got to 30 goals last season without scoring four goals a game. What he’s done is phenomenal in my opinion, and if he does go to Manchester United, I don’t see how he doesn’t win the Golden Boot.”
Regarding the coveted Player of the Year accolade, Merson believes the honor should go to a player from the team that clinches the Premier League title. In this regard, he places his faith in Jack Grealish to shine. The Aston Villa captain’s outstanding performances last season have already justified his transfer fee in Merson’s view. He confidently said, “With his performances last season, I believe he’s paid back his transfer fee already.”
