Tottenham striker, Ivan Perisic, is anticipated to be sidelined for the remainder of the Premier League season due to a severe knee injury sustained during a training session.
Tottenham confirmed on Wednesday that the Croatian player had suffered a significant injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Perisic made a vital contribution off the bench in Tottenham’s thrilling 2-1 victory against Sheffield United last weekend, marking his 50th appearance with an assist. However, the gravity of his injury suggests that this might be his last appearance for the club.
At 34 years old, Perisic’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.
“The experienced Croatia international sustained the injury in non-contact training and will undergo surgery,” the club said in a statement.
“Ivan will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.”
Rodrigo Bentancur is currently out with an ACL injury sustained in February and he is not expected to be available for Ange Postecoglou until November.
Tottenham are second in the league table after a fine start to the season under new manager Postecoglou, with four wins in five matches.
