Ex-Bayern Youth player diagnosed with brain death

Chinese footballer Guo Jiaxuan, an 18-year-old defender and former member of Bayern Munich’s World Squad, has reportedly been diagnosed with brain death following a training match incident in Spain.
Guo was playing in a Beijing Football Association-organized camp when he sustained a severe head injury during a match against RC Alcobendas last Thursday. Reports indicate that he was struck in the face by an opponent’s knee, leading to a subarachnoid haemorrhage—a type of stroke caused by bleeding on the brain.
His brother revealed on social media that doctors in Madrid had determined there was little hope of recovery due to extensive bleeding in Guo’s brain.
“The doctor said my brother had too much bleeding in his head and that survival was unlikely… the hospital was preparing to remove his life support,” his brother wrote.
Despite the grim prognosis, Guo’s father has refused to approve the removal of his son’s life support or an autopsy, opting instead to pursue repatriation to China for potential further treatment.
