Spanish striker Álvaro Negredo has officially announced his retirement from football at the age of 39.
“Thanks, football,” he said in a social media video, symbolically hanging up his boots.
Negredo, who last played for Real Valladolid, helped the club secure promotion to La Liga before departing at the end of last season.
Over his career, he represented clubs such as Sevilla, Manchester City, Valencia, and Besiktas, among others.
During his time at Man City, he won both the Premier League and the League Cup in the 2013-14 season before moving to Valencia on loan.
On the international stage, Negredo was part of Spain’s Euro 2012-winning squad, making two appearances in the tournament.
Across his career, he scored 290 goals in 755 club appearances and netted 10 times in 21 matches for Spain.
