A powerful explosion rocked the city of Jos on Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves through nearby areas.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blast occurred around 10:30 am near the busy Terminus market, a densely populated area.

Early reports suggest several people were injured, with some sources indicating there may be fatalities. The full extent of the damage is still unclear, but witnesses described chaotic scenes of destruction.

“I was close by when I heard a loud bang,” said Gyang Buba, a clothes vendor who witnessed the event. “People were running and screaming. It was terrifying,” he added.

Emergency services, including police, fire crews, and ambulance teams, swiftly arrived on the scene to assist the injured.

The Plateau State Police Command has yet to issue a statement. Attempts to reach spokesman Alabo Alfred were unsuccessful as his phone was turned off. However, police sources in Jos confirmed the blast and stated that an investigation was underway.

“The area has been cordoned off as authorities begin to assess the situation,” a police source shared. “We are working to determine the cause of the explosion and urge the public to remain calm. We are committed to ensuring their safety.”

This explosion has raised concerns about security in Jos, which has faced sporadic violence and unrest in recent years. Residents are calling for increased safety measures in the area.

Further updates are expected.
