Extortion: Court convicts 2 illegal tax collector

The fight against illegal tax activity has continued to achieve further success as the Makurdi Upper Area Court 2, today convicted two culprits.

The culprits, one Imoter Une and Victor Songu were both found guilty of extortion.

Mr. Imoter Une was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment with an option of 10,000 Naira fine, while Mr. Victor Songu pleaded guilty and was granted pardon by the court with a promise never to return to the crime.

The duo was arrested during a sting operation by the task force on illegal tax activity set up by the Benue Internal Revenue Service while extorting unsuspecting tax payers.
