Father arrested for attempting to sell two daughters for N700,000 in Akwa Ibom

A man has been arrested in Akwa Ibom while allegedly negotiating the sale of his two daughters.

Spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Ukeme Umana, in a statement yesterday, said Elisha Effiong, 40, was apprehended as he attempted to sell his two daughters for N700,000.

Umana said the suspect was arrested after being tipped off by a private guard at Full Care Hospital on Ekpanya Street, Uyo, the state capital.

The girls are aged four and six years.

“The private security guard notified the NSCDC and immediately the State Commandant, Abidemi Majekodunmi detailed personnel of the anti-human trafficking unit of the corps to swing into action.

The suspect was apprehended on November 15 with his two daughters,” Umana said in the statement.
