Faustinus Gundu: Police confirm death of albino Rev Fr in Benue
The Benue State Police Command has officially confirmed the death of Rev. Fr Faustinus Gundu, a devoted Catholic priest.
The incident occurred at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jootar, Ukum Local Government Area of the state, on Thursday, under mysterious circumstances.
Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the cause of his passing, with one narrative suggesting that the priest was struck by lightning, while another stated that he slumped and succumbed.
According to sources, the late Fr Gundu had placed a towel outside and rushed to retrieve it when an unforeseen event unfolded. In the haste to collect the towel, he slipped and tragically struck his head on a hard surface, resulting in severe injuries.
Regrettably, there was no immediate assistance available at the time of the incident, and the priest was left to contend with the harsh elements until the rain subsided.
“In the process of rushing out to pick the towel outside, he slipped and fell hitting his head on a hard surface,” said a source who wished to remain anonymous.
By the time the community became aware of the distressing episode, it was too late to render aid, and Fr Gundu had already passed away.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the heartbreaking occurrence. However, the circumstances surrounding his demise, whether it was due to a fall or a lightning strike, remain subject to a thorough police investigation.
She said, “I received the report but they alleged thunder. It is until we investigate before that will be concluded.”
